Used excavators are typically priced significantly lower than new ones, saving buyers with limited budgets substantial sums and offering a faster return on investment. Used equipment can be put into immediate use without waiting for production or delivery, making it ideal for buyers who need to get their businesses up and running quickly. Furthermore, purchasing used excavators helps reduce resource waste and environmental pollution, aligning with sustainable development principles.
A comprehensive inspection is required, covering the appearance, core components, hydraulic system, and chassis. Check the exterior for obvious deformation, cracks, or welding marks; ensure the paint is even. Check the engine start-up sound for smoothness and exhaust for normal operation. Inspect the hydraulic system for leaks and ensure smooth operation. Examine the chassis tracks for wear and check the track rollers and carrier rollers for proper function. It is recommended to hire professional personnel for inspection to ensure equipment quality.
Key inspection points include: visual inspection (paint, welding marks, structural components), engine inspection (starting, running, exhaust), hydraulic system inspection (oil pipe leaks, coordination of movements), chassis inspection (track wear, track rollers, drive wheels), electrical system inspection (instruments, lights, air conditioning), and trial operation testing (digging, slewing, traveling, etc.). It is also necessary to verify that the equipment documentation is complete, including the certificate of conformity, purchase invoice, and property registration certificate.
Among imported brands, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, and Volvo are known for their stable quality and durability, but they are also more expensive, with higher prices and more costly spare parts. Among domestic brands, Sany Heavy Industry, XCMG, and LiuGong offer high cost-performance ratios, readily available spare parts, and lower maintenance costs. Komatsu models such as the 60-7, 130-7, and 200-7 are popular in the used car market. When choosing a brand, one should consider their budget, operating requirements, and the availability of spare parts.
Prices are mainly affected by factors such as brand, model, service life, working hours, vehicle condition, and market supply and demand. Well-known brands such as Caterpillar and Komatsu have higher resale value. Small excavators (around 1 ton) are priced at approximately 20,000-50,000 yuan, medium-sized ones (3-5 tons) at approximately 50,000-150,000 yuan, and large ones (over 20 tons) can reach hundreds of thousands of yuan. Equipment with a shorter service life and fewer working hours is more expensive. Prices are relatively higher in economically developed regions.
Don't completely trust the numbers displayed on the hour meter, as it's easily tampered with. You can verify the actual usage by: checking that all hydraulic lines and glass serial numbers match; inspecting major components for repair marks (engine overhauls are generally done after 6000 hours); observing the wear and tear on control levers and pedals; checking the condition of electrical equipment (work lights, horn, air conditioning, etc.); and reviewing maintenance and repair records. These details often reflect the true condition of the equipment.
Prioritize authorized dealers, as they offer transparent vehicle conditions, complete documentation, and some provide warranties and third-party inspections. Transactions through used equipment platforms (such as TieJia and YiGongPin) are also recommended, offering abundant resources, allowing comparison of vehicle conditions and prices across multiple locations, and supporting platform-guaranteed transactions and third-party inspections. Individual sellers may offer lower prices, but lack after-sales guarantees, and you must verify the vehicle condition and documentation yourself. Avoid private transactions involving "no documents, no records, and low-price lead generation," as these may involve ownership disputes or hidden malfunctions.
Common problems include: insufficient pressure and reduced flow due to hydraulic pump wear; slow or no operation due to wear of hydraulic cylinders and motors; jamming, improper closure, and internal or external leakage of various valves (pilot valves, directional valves, etc.); oil leakage and poor heat dissipation of the radiator; and clogged filters. Prevention methods include: regularly checking the hydraulic oil level and quality, and replenishing or replacing the hydraulic oil as needed; regularly replacing the hydraulic oil filter; checking the hydraulic pump's operating pressure; keeping the cooling system clean; and regularly checking the hydraulic lines for wear or leaks.
The following checks are required: Check for cracks, breaks, or deformation in the track plates; measure the diameter of the track pins and compare it with that of a new pin; check for loose, worn, or deformed track links; check for cracks, deformation, or rust on the undercarriage frame; check for wear, cracks, or deformation in the track rollers and carrier rollers; check for normal travel of the idler wheels and tensioning devices; observe whether the tracks deviate from their course, slip, or make any abnormal noises during test runs. The thickness of the track bottom plates and the degree of wear on the bucket edges should match the data on the timetable; heavy wear but low working hours may indicate that the timetable has been tampered with.
First, clarify your specific working requirements: 15-20 ton mini excavators are suitable for municipal engineering and rural construction; 20-30 ton medium excavators are suitable for general engineering and earthmoving operations; and over 30 ton large excavators are for mining and heavy-duty construction. Second, consider the brand: imported brands (Caterpillar, Komatsu) are durable and suitable for high-frequency heavy-duty work; domestic brands (Sany, XCMG) offer high cost-performance and readily available spare parts. Finally, choose based on your budget: nearly new machines with less than 2000 hours of operation are expensive; machines with 5000-8000 hours of operation offer high cost-performance; older machines with over 10000 hours of operation are cheaper but have higher maintenance costs. It is recommended to comprehensively evaluate based on factors such as project workload, operating environment, and budget.
